Content & Development |
Poor (1-20) – Content is incomplete. – Major points are not clear and /or persuasive. |
Fair (21-44) – Content is not comprehensive and /or persuasive. – Major points are addressed, but not well supported. – Research is inadequate .-Content is inconsistent with regard to purpose and clarity of thought. |
Good (45-50) – Content is comprehensive, accurate, and persuasive. – Major points are stated clearly and are well supported. – Research is adequate, – Content and purpose of the writing are clear. |
Organization & Structure |
Poor (1-10) – Organization and structure detract from the message of the writer. – Paragraph is disjointed and lack transition of thoughts. |
Fair (11-24) – Structure of the paragraph is not easy to follow. – Paragraph transitions need improvement. |
Good (25-30) – Structure of the paragraph is clear and easy to follow. |
Format |
Poor (1-3) – Paper lacks many elements of correct formatting. – Paragraph is inadequate/excessive in length. |
Fair (4-7) – Paper contains few grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors. – Language lacks clarity or includes the use of some slangs or conversational tone. |
Good (8-10) – Rules of grammar, usage, and punctuation are followed; spelling is correct. – Language is clear and precise; sentences display consistently strong, varied structure. |
Penmanship 10 pts |
Poor (1-3) Many letters over or under the line, letters are nor formed correctly in most of the words, uneven spacing between letters and most of the words, letters slant to the left to the right or go up and down.

Fair (4-7) Letters per sentence over or under the line, letters per sentence are incorrectly formed, examples of uneven spacing between letters or words, letters show slant in one consistent directions |
Good (8-10) All letters are on the line, correctly formed, good spacing between letters and words, all letters show consistent slant in one direction. |

Spelling 10 pts |
Poor (1-3) Paper contains numerous spelling errors. |
Fair (4-7) – Paper contains few spelling errors. |
Good (8-10) – spelling is correct. |
